What is a pattern-based curtain system in terms of Autodesk Revit?
Hermien Koekemoer
You apply a pattern to a divided surface within the massing environment.

Steps to making a new pattern:
Step 1:
New>> Family >> select Curtain panel based >> Open

Step 2:
On the properties tab, select the dividing pattern > Rhomboidal

Step 3:

On the model itself, choose the Vertical plane to draw a small square using the MODEL lines. This is now going to be the frame of panel. Now select the square as well as the path and create an extrusion.

Step 4:

Now click on all four inside planes and select the extrude function again to form a glass pane.

Step 5:

Choose the frame and set its material, and then choose the glass pane and set its material to glass, see-through.

Step 6:

Load this created panel into project

Step 7:

Select the surface where you would like to add the created pattern to >> in the properties menu, select the shape and under the rhomboidal heading the newly created family (this is now the glass panel with frame you created) will be visible. >> select the family and it will apply YOUR pattern to the selected surface.

The way it works is, you have created a divided surface to host the panel and then within the pattern based curtain family template, you build out a complexity for your panels and the went back into the mass environment you can then select it to propagate the pattern  along the divided surface.
